KARACHI, Oct 4: Police on Tuesday submitted a charge-sheet against Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz chairman Bashir Quershi in a case pertaining to the alleged recovery of illicit weapons from his house.

Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, arrested the JSQM chief along with his two aides, Badruddin and Shiraz, on Sept 15 near his Gulshan-i-Hadeed residence and claimed to have seized illicit weapons from him and his house.

The investigation officer of the case submitted the charge-sheet under Section 173 of the criminal procedure code in the court of a judicial magistrate (Malir) on Tuesday.

According to the charge-sheet, the JSQM chief led a police party and other law-enforcement personnel to his residence and from the basement of his house they found around a dozens weapons, including rifles, sub-machine guns, repeaters, daggers and a number of bullets.

It added that all the weapons found were illegal and the suspect was being charge-sheeted under Section 13-E of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965. The IO cited over 10 policemen as prosecution witnesses in the charge-sheet.

On Sept 29, the police also charge-sheeted Mr Quershi in another case registered under Section 13-D of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965 regarding the alleged recovery of unlicensed weapons from his possession at the time of the arrest.The police had also filed a separate charge-sheet against suspect Badruddin.

However, the IO had filed a Class-C report for cancellation of a case against suspect Shiraz Ahmed.

Two cases were registered against Bashir Qureshi under Sections 13-D and 13-E of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965 at the Steel Town police station.

The police also registered separate cases against Shiraz and Badruddin under Section 13-D of the Arms Ordinance.

However, Shiraz was released on a personal bond a day after his arrest and the other two suspects were released on bail on Sept 17.
