KARACHI: A woman killed herself after quarrelling with her son and the same bullet that ended her life, travelled through the body and killed her son as well in the Manghopir area on Tuesday, police said.
SSP-West Dr Hafeezur Rehman Bugti said bodies of 40-year-old Tania and her 13-year-old son, Mohammed Khan, were found from their home in Mai Garhi.
The police had rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. The pistol used in the incident was recovered from the spot. It was a licensed pistol registered in the name of the deceased woman’s husband, Qurban.
Initially, the police had thought that the woman had first shot her son and then ended her own life. However, The SSP later told Dawn that the woman, after quarrelling with her son, shot herself but the bullet travelled through her body and hit her son in the back and exited.
He said that the teenager had demanded some money from his mother to buy something to eat. When she refused to give him cash, he started breaking a locker with an iron rod to get money from it. An exchange of hot words between the mother and the son led to the fatal shooting incident.
He said relatives told the police that the woman, mother of four, was suffering from some ‘mental’ issues.
The police had launched probe from different angles while the spent bullet casing was sent to the forensic science lab for investigation purposes.
Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that the woman suffered a bullet wound in the chest and the bullet exited from the back and hit the son in the back and exited from the chest.
