SHEIKHUPURA, Nov 11: The hunger strike by women councillors continued for the sixth consecutive day on Monday.

Twelve councillors are on hunger strike against the step-motherly behaviour of district Nazim Tawakkalullah Virk and his corruption.

Talking to newsmen here, Ms Surayya Fatima said they were observing hunger strike against the massive corruption and misappropriation of district council funds by the Nazim, Naib Nazim and DCO.

She claimed that about Rs2 million were approved by the district council for the grant of TA/DA, besides making payment to councillors and others staff concerned who made arrangement on the occasion of Punjab governor’s visit to Sheikhupura.

She said when the women councillors raised voice against the unlawful act of the Nazim, he started misbehaving with them.

She alleged that the Nazim charged 5 per cent to 10 per cent commission while approving development schemes.

Ms Fatima urged the Punjab governor to order an impartial inquiry into the district Nazim’s corruption.

Nazim Tawakkal, on the other hand, denied all the allegations and declared them false and baseless.
