KARACHI: 11 cars, 16 bikes hijacked

KARACHI, Nov 11: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city on Monday.

A young man, Nizamuddin, aged 25, was run over by a speeding passenger coach in SITE.

Police said that Nizamuddin was walking across the main road near the Habib Bank chowrangi in SITE when a speeding coach (PE-8830) knocked him down.

He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A man died in a road accident on Sharea Faisal in the morning.

Police said that Karamat Siddiqui, aged 60, was run over by an unidentified vehicle while walking across the main Sharea Faisal near the Finance & Trade Centre.

He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The vehicle sped off after the accident.

CARJACKING: Twenty-seven vehicles — 11 cars and 16 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, police said.

Five cars were hijacked. Six others were stolen.

Nine motorcycles were hijacked. Seven others were stolen.

INJURED: Bandits injured three brothers in Korangi early Monday morning.

Two bandits entered a house in Zia Colony, Korangi, at Sehri. When they were trying to hold the family hostage at gunpoint, they put up resistance to them. Whereupon the bandits attacked three brothers, Rashid, Ramzan and Ashraf, and escaped.

The father of the three young men, Rafiq, caught hold of one of the bandits. He was handed over to police. He was identified as Ghulam Abbas. A pistol was recovered from his possession, police said.
