HYDERABAD: Court summons jail official

HYDERABAD, Nov 11: The district and sessions judge on Monday ordered the deputy superintendent, Central Jail, Zia-ur-Rehman, to appear in person before the court on Tuesday in connection with the detention of Hassan Chandio, the prime accused in the Hyderabad carnage case of 1988.

Zia-ur-Rehman attended the court on Monday to inform the court about the details of the cases pending against Hassan Chandio.

The court asked him to get the details from various courts to know how many cases were pending against Hassan Chandio.

When the court again took up the matter and summoned Zia-ur-Rehman, he did not show up.

Zahoor A. Baloch, counsel for the applicant, argued that the jail official did not bother to attend the court.

The court ordered the issuance of contempt-of-court notice. However, Mr Rehman soon turned up saying that he was collecting details about Hassan Chandio from the court of the judicial magistrate-I, Fida Hussain Mughal.

The court recalled its earlier order of issuance of contempt-of-court notice and fixed the matter for Tuesday.

The applicant’s counsel had filed an application under section 491 CrPC, arguing that Hassan Chandio had been granted bail in all the cases. Although he was not required in any case, yet he was being wrongfully confined in jail.
