KARACHI, Nov 11: Some 1,200 primary schools in kutcha abadis in urban and rural areas of the province will be upgraded to the middle school level, said Sindh Education Minister Khan Mohammad Dehri at a meeting of the Executive District Officers (EDOs) of the Education Department.

The minister directed the EDOs that if in any part of the rural areas there is no middle school up to a distance of one kilometre, a report be submitted to him within a week so that a school could be set up in the area.

He said 250 teachers had been promoted from grade 18 to 19 and another 250 teachers would be promoted from grade 17 to 18.

The minister stated that jobs for 250 posts of grade 17 would be given through the Sindh Public Service Commission.

He also asked the EDOs to submit a report of the cases of promotion of teachers so that more and more teachers would be promoted.

Mr Dehri directed the officials that students of classes VI to VIII be given scholarship of Rs100 each.

Secretary education informed the minister that for collection of ACRs of the teachers a separate section would be set up under an additional-secretary so as to ensure their timely promotions.

The minister was also informed that 114 primary school would be established in every district under the non-formal education programme and these would also be run with the help of NGOs.—APP
