Road to protect KKH planned

SKARDU, Nov 10: Force Commander, Northern Areas, Maj-Gen Nadeem Ahmad, has said that a ten-kilometre-long road portion would be constructed with a bridge near Dadang village to protect the Karakoram Highway from damage forever.

This was disclosed by him while replying to a question at FCNA HQs during a briefing regarding relief operations in earthquake-hit areas in Diamer district on Saturday.

These areas are in the seismic-prone zone and there is always a danger of quakes, he said.

He said they were carrying out short-term and prompt relief operations for the quake-affectees but a long-term rehabilitation process should be initiated by NA’s civil administration.

In this regard, he said, he had talked to Northern Areas minister recently. He described the coordination between the Army, civil administration and NGOs during relief operation as “exemplary”. —APP
