HYDERABAD, Nov 10: The Awami Tehrik has demanded of President Gen Pervez Musharraf to order the rehabilitation of 3,000 Sindhi-speaking families, who were ejected from their houses in Karachi and Hyderabad.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, AT president Rasool Bux Palejo alleged: “In 1986 the agencies raised and trained a terrorist organization, which unleashed a reign of terror and loot throughout Sindh, especially in Karachi and Hyderabad”.
He said the organization looted 2,000 families in Liaquat Colony, Khai Road, Paretabad, Khokhar Muhalla, Kutcha Qila, Mumtaz Colony, Phulleli, Latifabad and other areas of Hyderabad and forced them to abandon their ancestral homes.
Similarly, Palejo said, 1,000 Sindhi-speaking families in Karachi were forced to flee and their bread-earners were massacred. He said these people were not given any compensation.
TRIBUTE: The birth anniversary of the poet and philosopher, Allama Mohammad Iqbal, was celebrated at the Petaro College on Sunday.
A function was held on the occasion in the Qaid Hall.
Prof Chand Bibi Sultana Bakhtiar Zai, director, Pakistan Studies Centre, University of Sindh, was the guest speaker.
She delivered a lecture on “Allama Iqbal: the visionary leader of an independent Muslim homeland”.
