KARACHI: DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed Friday said that the metropolis was not facing any immediate threat of Congo virus, however the city government was taking precautionary measures in this regard.

He was talking to media representatives at a formal inauguration of extensive town-wise fumigation campaign in city, at Saddar Town Office, said a statement.

He said that city government was taking advance precautionary measures to eradicate all kinds of viruses.

Number of spray vehicles has been increased to 50 and more than 25 hand pumps have been    purchased for door to door spray.

He said that orders have been issued to shut down swimming pools in all five star hotels, clubs and other places while F.I.R will be lodged against the violators.

Earlier, Mohammad Hussain Syed launched the spray campaign in Saddar Town in which 50 spray vehicles and 25 hand pumps will be used for extensive spray.

The DCO Karachi said that Saddar Town was among the most affected towns in recent rains where fumigation is being performed in densely populated areas including Mithadar, Kharadar, Tower, Empress Market and Burns Road.

Mohammad Hussain Syed said during the campaign spray will be performed three times a day. Residential areas will be covered in morning and evening hours while commercial areas and markets will be covered at noon, he added.

He said that a total of 194 dengue cases had been reported so far and spray will be done in and around all such affected houses in city.

Replying to a question he said door to door spray campaign has    been initiated    for the first time in Karachi while arrangements have    also been made at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Sindh Government's New Karachi Hospital and Sarfaraz Rafiqui Shaheed Hospital which would treat Dengue patients, he noted.
