Its an utter shame that we Pakistanis cannot wathc the final of our national game against arch rivals India but you can watch baseball live on ESPN and there's a live cricket match. DISGUSTING> DOESN'T ANYONE CARE ABOUT THIS GAME ANYMORE ???

Thank you Dawn for the only thing approximating 'live' coverage of this game. Such a pity... As an Indian, happy we won, but it's always a little hollow when done on penalties. Glad that India and Pak are back on top in Asia, and that too with youthful teams. Hopefully that's a good sign for the future that we can match Australia, Germany, Holland, etc.

Agree with Balaji. Doesn't matter if pakistan lost but at least both teams were playing together, improving their games and most of all they are getting nearer to each other. I pray that these two countries forget all negative thinkings about each other and become best friends and take care of each other.

what i am gonna say is not a excuse..... congratulations to india...but Pakistan played awesomly...what we had was a young team with many players making debut or playing less than 10 players...but i am damn happy about it...coz we are preparing our team for olympics and champions trophy and even we lost, our young debut players proved that they can make finals and hold an indian team with their regular players till the penalties...WELL DONE PAKISTAN TEAM!!! and shame on both Pakistani and indian media for not telecasting the match!!

Time to rethink for Pakistan Selection Committee and select SOHAIL ABBAS (Penalty Corner Expert) next time!

Truly, it is most frustrating. Hockey is our national sport and no coverage??? Indians were deprived of watching such highest level lovely game. Govt cant even provide best quality fitting shoes to our young heroes.

Both India and pakistan, have a long way to go in hockey to catch up with the rest of the world; Countries like Australia, Holland etc are head and shoulders above Indo-Pak hockey. May be we (India and Pakistan) should jointly create a Hockey League with foreign players, on the model of the Cricket Leagues, and make sure Hockey gets attention and money.

It was good to see India win.But I must add that these days a hockey match between India and Pakistan is akin to Namibia and Kenya playing cricket with each other.We stand no where in front of our western counterparts and Australia.

I have a suggestion .. next time when there is a match between India and Pakistan, in any sport, we should accept defeat before the match is even played. No use of raising hopes against a country that actually makes efforts on its players. We on the other hand, expect just an upset.

i'm a Pakistani. Sad naturally but well, congratulations to India. And it was 0-0 in till the extra time so i bet must have been a good match to watch but sadly i couldn't find a single channel broadcasting the match. Such a shame. Thanks Dawn, I was so eager to see the result of the match but every Indian news paper was concentrating on the cricket and yet no news about the hockey win, I found the news of India's Asian Champions Trophy win in you website!!!, I am also a cricket fan but the game is killing other sports in India...I read in your website that few of our boys were playing without proper athletic shoes and yet they have lifted the trophy...Bravo Indian players and better luck next time Pakistani players...

Green shirts have done really well in last few months , they played final of almost every tournament they played. pakistan hockey team has to work extra time with young buds in order to win coming tourny - its no use making tall promises by officials about unseen future - in order to save hard earned foreign excchange it would be advisible to engage minimum experts for team; no use of sending over sized officials.

Revive Asian Hockey by playing on grass or gravel.Astro turf and plastic ball means hit,trap and shortcut to goal with no offside-here powerful Europeans outplay us.But then astro game is not the style Asians held supremacy till 70s.Pak,India,Malaysia,S.Korea,Japan and China can form the crunch and more nations to follow suit by starting field hockey at grass route level.

Its surprising to see this leading paper give such a small report on India's victory here. I'm sure if there was a Pakistan victory involved there would have been a bigger write up. The style of Hockey played by India and Pakistan is a treat to watch. The hockey played by Europeans and Australias is robotic and is not at all interesting to watch. I also wish there were some field goals scored in this match. India and Pakistan need to play more matches and must rekindle the glory of our style of Hockey. I hope that these teams play the finals in the London Olympics 2012. Its shameful that India did not show the Asia Cup finals on DD. I am sure the Indian Govt. can afford the cost of telecasting this match live on TV. I wonder if our Pakistani friends were able to see this match.

Well Done, It is nice to see two nations playing who are standard bearers of pure Asian style hockey. This new tournament has established that both teams lead the Asian hockey. A match ending at penalty shoot outs speak of good hockey on the part of both finalists. This rivalry is good for future of game. However, both should play even more. The meeting of Pk and India in the finals of hockey tournament is a great news. The untimate result is immaterial. The excessive obssession with criket is harming the advancement of other games in the sub-continenet The commercialization of the scandal ridden criket has to stop only then other games will prosper.

It is all due to the few minutes pause available between the overs. During this time business giants could promote their products through advertising. No other game have this opportunity. So whenever there is a chance to advertise every few minutes during the game, Cricket will ever be a game to promote.

I hope selectors realized that they have made a major blunder in not selecting Sohail Abbas, the penalty corner specialist. I am absolutely sure had he been selected he would have converted atleast one out of five PC.
