LAKKI MARWAT, Nov 8: The NWFP government has released Rs22.5 million for improving irrigation system in the Lakki Marwat district under the Drought Emergency Rehabilitation Assistance (DERA) programme.

This was stated by Lakki Marwat Zila Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan while talking to delegations of elite and councillors here on Friday.

He said that 93 tubewells would be repaired, which also included six irrigation and 10 SCARP (salinity control and rehabilitation project) tubewells. Similarly, the machinery of 77 other tubewells would also be replaced to meet irrigation requirements of the area, he said.

The Zila Nazim said that all irrigation and SCARP tubewells would be repaired and new installed under a phased programme to boost agriculture produce of the district. The launching of Kurram Tangi Dam was also a step towards this direction.
