
KARACHI: A meeting presided over by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah was held on Monday to assess and evaluate the preparation for expected rain and flooding in Sindh.
The Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbas informed the meeting that Sindh government through PDMA has issued special weather advisory on August 27 which was convened to all the districts, armed forces and other departments for taking necessary action.
He said the armed forces have been alerted for quick response in case of any eventuality and to provide air cover wherever required.
Sufficient ration/food items and funds have been provided to the districts, he informed.
The chief minister as well as chief secretary are in constant touch with the DCOs through telephone in order to keep themselves abreast to the latest situation.
The future requirements have been obtained from the districts in order and arrangements were afoot to send relief goods to the concerned areas.
The Chief Minister approved a proposal given by the Chief Secretary for imposing section 144 Cr.PC across the province to ensure safety of drainage networks by forbidding unauthorised cutting of embankments.
The meeting was informed that KESC and HESCO have been instructed to provide uninterrupted power supply for the pumping stations to enable quick draining out of rain water.
KWSB/WASA/ TMAs have been instructed to ensure clean passage for drainage of water and clear sewerage lines.
The city government has been asked to keep CNG buses ready to shift people from affected areas to relief camps if needed.
Moreover twentyone fumigation machines/spray machines will be utilised to check breeding of mosquitos in water pools by the the district Government.
A Control Room in PDMA is functional round the clock to monitor emergency situation. Health Department has been directed to stock sufficient medicines in all hospitals and BHUs. Leaves and holidays of concerned officials have been canclled to ensure their presence. The meeting was attended by the all concerned officials.
