MELBOURNE, Nov 5: Australian Bryan Haskins was counting his winnings Tuesday after snapping up odds of 5,500-1 on a big race double.

He coupled Northerly, who won last month’s Caulfield Cup, with Media Puzzle, Tuesday’s Melbourne Cup hero.

Haskins placed a $20 bet when the weights were first released for the two races and now collects A$110,000 (US$61,600).

Haskins also had A$50 each way on Media Puzzle at odds of 150-1. After heavy support over the weekend, Media Puzzle went off on the day at odds of just 5-1.—Reuters
