LAHORE, Aug 17: An additional district and sessions judge on Wednesday indicted a DSP and three other policemen in Nishter Colony encounter that led to the killing of young Shahbaz Butt.

DSP Riasat Bajwa, sub-inspector Muhammad Riaz and constables Muhammad Asif and Abdul Qadir denied the charges and the judge summoned prosecution witnesses on Aug 24.

The court also adjourned hearing of post-arrest bail petition of DSP Bajwa till Aug 20.

Last month, a Mohafiz squad arrested Shahbaz Butt during an alleged dacoity incident. Later, the Nishter Colony police reached the spot and killed Butt, claiming he died in encounter.

stay vacated: The Lahore High Court withdrew on Wednesday an earlier stay granted to a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) director against his transfer allegedly made without lawful authority.

Director Irshad had challenged his transfer from Lahore to Peshawar and the court had stayed the transfer order.

Later the NAB Punjab challenged that order and informed the court that the transfer of the petitioner had been done in accordance with the law and the deputy chairman was empowered under the law to do so.

Report sought: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought a report and comments from the industries secretary and the Federal Investigation Agency by Aug 24 on a writ petition challenging appointment of the National Fertilizer Corporation chairman and pointing out corruption in the NFC.

Petitioner Ahmad Ali Ranjha stated through his counsel that the respondent chairman was 80-year-old and was not capable of discharging his duties. He alleged that the chairman awarded urea contract to blacklisted companies which caused artificial shortage of the product.

The petitioner prayed to the court to take notice of the corruption in the NFC and declare the chairman illegible for the post.
