LAHORE: The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) on Saturday submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly Secretariat for the creation of a new province out of Punjab’s southern regions, DawnNews reported.
Sources at the assembly secretariat said the resolution was submitted by PPP's deputy parliamentary leader Shaukat Mehmood Basra, Syed Nazim Hussain Shah, Sardar Athar Hasan Gorchani and PML-Q's parliamentary leader Chaudhry Zaheeruddin, Mohsin Leghari, Raza Hayat Hairaj and Mian Shafi.
The resolution requests the federal government to make the requisite amendments in the 1973 constitution so that southern Punjab can become a separate administrative unit.
Speaking to media representatives at the occasion, Mr Basra said time had come for the accountability of those who had been profiting from the hard work of the people of southern Punjab.
He further said that the PPP would succeed in its efforts to bring justice to the people of the region. — DawnNews
