KARACHI, Aug 12: Feeling insecure about their vehicles, transport operators announced on Saturday that public transport vehicles would remain off the road on Saturday while making it clear that they had no political affiliation nor did they support any strike.
Karachi Transport Ittehad chief Irshad Bokhari told Dawn that transport operators were doing their business and had no affiliation with any political party.
But because of fear for security of their vehicles transport operators had decided to keep the public transport vehicles — including 3,000 buses, 8,000 minibuses and 7,000 coaches — off the road on Saturday, he said.
He said that a few days ago nationalist parties had given a call for a strike and five vehicles, including buses, minibuses and coaches, were set on fire near Sachal Goth, Safoora Goth and other suburban areas of the city.—Staff Reporter
