HYDERABAD, Nov 3: The Tehsil Council Workers Union (CBA), Hyderabad city, appealed to the Sindh governor; the Corps Commander, Sindh; the GOC, Hyderabad; and the district Nazim to ensure payment of the salaries for September and October to hundreds of employees of the three Tehsil Councils of Hyderabad, Latifabad, and Qasimabad.

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, the general secretary of the CBA union, Mohammad Akram Rajput, its deputy general secretary, Syed Jarar Ahmed Jafri, and its vice chairman, Premnath Guddu, have appealed to the authorities concerned to take notice of the excesses of the city Nazim and Naib Nazim.

The CBA leaders claimed that the employees had not been paid their salaries in spite of the fact that an amount of Rs12.5 million was lying in the account of the city council.

They alleged that contrary to this the contractors were being paid their dues for the sake of commission.

They said that the employees were being victimized for raising their voice for their legal and just cause.

They warned that their silence should not be construed as a weakness because they were ready to wage a peaceful struggle for the genuine rights of the workers.

They said that they also reserved the right to seek justice from the court of law.

WAPDA: Chairman of the Pakistan Wapda Employees Pegham Union, Aijaz Ahmed Shaikh, has said that the departmental examinations for promotion of grade 5 to 17 employees was unjustified.

Speaking to the participants of the provincial meeting of the union, which was held at the Circular Building, he said that such an examination was not in vogue in any other department of the country.

He said that the Wapda employees were being asked to work overtime without payment of overtime and half-day wages, adding that this was tantamount to unlawful compulsory labour.

Criticizing the CBA union for having failed to resolve the problems of the workers, he stressing upon the need for resolution of the problems of the workers, saying that Wapda authorities should realise that it was necessary for maintenance of industrial peace.

Others, who spoke at the meeting, included the union’s vice president, Wahid Bakhsh Langah, provincial chairman, Nawab Ali Jakhrani, Babu Yaqoob and Syed Anwar Ali Shah.

MINORITIES: Several members of minorities under the aegis of the Tando Yousuf Minority Graveyard Committee, Hyderabad, on Sunday staged token hunger strike outside the press club to protest against the decrepit condition of the Tando Yousuf Minorities’ Graveyard.

Talking to newsmen, Wilson Bagha and Pitrus Suba said that the minorities’ graveyard was being desecrated and they had been protesting since the last three months for the proper maintenance of the graveyard but in vain.

They appealed to the Sindh governor; the district Nazim; and the Latifabad Tehsil Nazim to take notice of the decrepit condition of the graveyard and ensure its proper maintenance.

MOOT: A one-day seminar on schizophrenia was organised at the Sir C.J. Institute of Psychiatry here on Saturday.

The medical superintendent of the institute, Dr Abdul Karim Noorani, introduced the topic and Dr Abdul Hameed Memon delivered a lecture on the schizophrenic disorders.

He also presented two cases for study, which were reviewed by a panel of doctors.
