Six get life term for killing cop

HARIPUR, Nov 2: The additional district and sessions judge of Haripur has awarded life term to six accused in the murder case of a head constable and also fined them Rs110,000 each.

According to prosecution, the convicts— Tariq Mehmood, Mubarik, Mohammad Pervez, Wajid Ali, Haris Ayub and Faisal Bashir— had gunned down Abdul Rauf, a head constable, who had put up resistance during a hold-up while travelling in a passenger vehicle in 1999.

The court sentenced each of the convicts to the life imprisonment under Section 396 PPC, seven years under Section 395 PPC, two years under Section 412 PPC and one year under Section 148 PPC.

Each of them will have to serve additional 25 months in case of non-payment of the fine.

PRISONERS FREED: A camp court set up in the Haripur central jail released 21 under trial prisoners on Saturday.

The court was presided over by Civil Judge Family Court Mrs Muneera Abbasi.

The prisoners had been arrested under Sections 107/151 PPC.
