SUKKUR, Nov 2: The feudal system and bribery are the root causes of many evils in Pakistan and they must be rooted out.

This was stated by the Deputy Attorney-General of Pakistan, Abdul Fateh Malik, here on Saturday while addressing the seminar on the ‘confidence of police on society’.

The seminar was organised by the Pakistan Legal Aid Society in Sukkur.

Expressing his concern over the widening of gap between the rich and the poor segments of the society, he said that the country was being plundered for the past five decades and nothing was done to bridge the gap.

He stressed on the need for working together for the betterment of the country, saying that there was room for improvement in every department.

The Naib district Naib Nazim, Iqbal Dawood, said that a model police station would be built in Sukkur.

He blamed the lower ranks for proliferating corruption in police department, saying that police stations have become ineffective.

He stressed on the need for keeping an eye on the activities of the police personnel at the lowest level.

DPO Sukkur Din Mohammad Baloch blamed political intervention for the corruption and inefficiency in the police department.

He said that the situation in the police department was not as bad as it was sometimes thought to be.

Other speakers also stressed on the need to revise the police pay structure to improve the efficiency of the police department.

The general secretary of the local press club urged the police to effectively deal with all forms of crimes to eliminate all forms of evils from the society.

He criticised the practice of illegal detention, saying that it affected the performance of the police. He added that the practice needed to be checked effectively.

Others participants of the seminar included the representatives of the Human Rights Commission and other prominent personalities of the city.
