Prices of essential commodities fixed

SUKKUR, Nov 2: The district coordination officer (DCO), Sukkur, Pir Ziaul Haq Suharwardy, on Saturday announced the refixed maximum retail price of 67 essential commodities.

These items include pulses, flour, spices, rice, milk and curd, meat, fish, Samosa, Pakora and sweets and chicken.

The new prices would be applicable within the limits of the Sukkur district with immediate effect till Eid-ul-Fitr 1423 Hijra.

Accordingly, the rates of fruits and vegetables (both local and imported) would be fixed on a daily basis by the secretary of the Market Committee in consultation with the deputy district officer (DDO), Sukkur, on a daily basis after allowing 15 per cent profit margin on auction rate to the retailers.

All dealers have been directed to exhibit the price lists conspicuously in their shops.

They have also been directed to ensure the availability of all items at the fixed prices besides being warned against black marketing, hoarding, and shortage of any commodity.

Contravention of the order was an offence, punishable with an imprisonment term, which may extend to three years and fine, which may extend to Rs100,000 under the Price Control and Prevention of Profiteering and Hoarding Act 1977.

SEMINAR: A seminar on wheat cultivation is being organised on Nov 5 at the Far Advisory Centre of the Hamdard University, Airport Road, Sukkur.

The event, set to begin at 9.30 am, is being organised by the Fauji Fertilizers Company.

The secretary agriculture, Sindh, Aftab Ahmed Qureshi, will be the chief guest on the occasion and the district Nazim, Nasir Hussain Shah, would preside over the seminar.

Agriculture scientists would brief the growers about the latest agricultural technology.
