LAHORE, Nov 1: District information secretaries of the PPP from all over the Punjab on Friday demanded that the National Assembly and the provincial legislatures should be convened immediately to transfer power to the elected representatives.

At a meeting under the chairmanship of provincial information secretary Naveed Chaudhry, the participants expressed concern over the delaying tactics the rulers were using to create confusion.

Central deputy information secretary Altaf Qureshi was also present.

A resolution adopted by them said whether in government on opposition, the PPP would adhere to its stand on the supremacy of parliament, inviolability of the Constitution, rejection of the Legal Framework Order and also the National Security Council, election of the president in a manner laid down in the Constitution, release of all of political detainees and safe return home of the exiled leaders.

The resolution said designs of anti-democratic forces determined to damage the PPP would be frustrated. It said the party would continue its struggle in accordance with the charter of the ARD.

The participants expressed their confidence in the leadership of Ms Benazir Bhutto.

Some of the participants criticized the regime for rigging the elections and its post-poll partisan attitude to facilitate a party to form its government.
