Mahmood IV emerge champions

KARACHI, Oct 30: Mahmood 1V comprising Mazhar Ali Khan, Shoaib, Iqbal Hyder and Mahmood Naqvi captured Dr Ilyas Masters Swiss Bridge tournament with leading score 127 V.P. says a press release of Karachi Bridge Association (KBA) Wednesday.

Mahmood 1V outplayed PSO 22-8 in the last round to raise their score 127 V.P. to clinch first place.

It had become an open affair as after the sixth round with Raees 108, Mahmood 105, Jamal and Four Bidders 102 each having the chance to grab glory.

After a tense battle Mahmood returned home with a much better score against their rivals PSO than other competitors.

Jamal ended up in second place with 119, Raees in third spot with 118 and Four Bidders had to content for the fourth position with 116 V.P.

Mrs Rehana Saigol, President of Pakistan Bridge Federation distributed the prizes among the winners.

Meanwhile Candyland snatched first prize in the 18-team Swiss Movement last Sunday scoring 96 V.P after beating PSO 25-2 in the last round. Zia-Hamid, Khalid-Hasan Askari represented the winners.

Mazhar occupied second berth with a score of 91 V.P. also winning four matches followed home by Four Bidders (88 V.P.).

Thirty eight pairs took part in the pairs event. From Red House Anwer Kemal-S.M. Ozair emerged victors with 65.63 per cent while from the Green House M. Haque-Syed Ameer Hasan topped with 59.40 percent.
