KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has called off a peace march previously scheduled for Friday in protest of the surge in violence in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

Earlier on Thursday, the MQM had announced that its lawmakers would stage a march on Friday from the Karachi Press Club to the Chief Minister’s House to register their protest over armed attacks in different parts of the city. The march was called off on Friday in light of the worsening law and order situation in the city.

Meanwhile, the MQM and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) submitted a joint requisition for a special National Assembly session on the recent spate of violence in Karachi.

The requisition, signed by 11 members from both parties, recommends a four-point agenda that focuses on the law and order situation in the city.
