KARACHI, July 6: A sessions court on Wednesday sentenced four men to death in a double murder case.

The court found Rehan Bengali, Mohammad Javed, Abu Bakar and Kamran alias Haroon guilty of killing two housemaids during a robbery in March 2005 in a Defence locality.

The additional district and sessions judge (south), Sagheer Ahmed Sheikh, who conducted the trial in the judicial complex (Central Prison), pronounced the judgment after recording evidence of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.

The court in its judgment observed that two prosecution witnesses had fully implicated the accused in the commissioning of the offence and medical reports also corroborated the evidence.

It further said that accused Javed also recorded his confessional statement under Section 174 of the criminal procedure code before a magistrate in which he also disclosed the names and roles of the co-accused.

The court ruled that the murder weapon and stolen articles were also found in the procession of the accused.

The prosecution has successfully proved its case against the accused beyond a shadow of a doubt, the judgment concluded.

According to the prosecution, accused Rehan was the gatekeeper of the house and he called his accomplices and planned the robbery.

They stabbed two housemaids to death and took Jehan Ara, the owner of the house, hostage and committed the robbery.

The police arrested Rehan on March 21, 2005 and also arrested the co-accused on the information provided by him and since then they have been in prison.

A case (FIR No 75/2005) was registered against the accused under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint of Jehan Ara's son at the Defence police station.
