SUKKUR, July 5: A woman thwarted an attempt by her husband to give in marriage their 18-year-old daughter to a nine-year-old boy to clear an old debt he had failed to pay off.

The underage boy Gulan Chandio was son of Noor Khan who had lent Hamza Chandio Rs100,000 three years ago.

The loan was payable within three months but Hanza could not clear it even after three years.

On Tuesday, Noor Khan accompanied by son reached the Nazal Chandio village near Thull in Kandhkot-Kashmore district and wanted to have the boy’s Nikkah solemnised with Hamza’s daughter Jannat Khatoon in return for the loan.

But Jannat’s mother Sughar Khatoon did not agree to the deal and rushed to nearby Mubarakpur police station with her daughter for help.

Police registered a case against Gulan and his father on her complaint but the father and son had escaped from the village before arrival of police.

Police are reportedly conducting raids to arrest them.
