Plea to stop mill sell-off

Published October 30, 2002

LARKANA, Oct 29: The PPP’s MNAs-elect and MPAs-elect from Larkana district have demanded the government to stop privatization of the Shahdadkot Textile Mills.

The People’s Party Parliamentarians’ elected representatives met here at the residence of Khalid Iqbal Memon, MNA-elect from NA-206, on Tuesday.

They urged the government to leave the decision to the next elected government.

They accused the chairman of the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation of selling the textile mill at a throw away price.

They said that the privatization of the factory would push thousands of labourers into unemployment, which would generate a wave of unrest among them. They demanded payment of 30-month salaries to the workers of the mill.
