PESHAWAR, Oct 28: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Fazl) demanded on Monday that the government should immediately convene the national and provincial assemblies’ maiden sessions to end the prevailing political chaos and uncertainty.

The JUI’s provincial executive council, which met at Darul Uloom Sarhad, expressed its concern over the delay in the assemblies’ sessions.

Provincial chief of the party, Maulana Amanullah, presided over the meeting, where the elected MNAs and MPAs were briefed about their duties and the rules of business of the houses.

Giving details of the meeting at a news conference, NWFP JUI General Secretary Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan demanded restoration of the 1973 Constitution and said the MNAs and MPAs-elect would take oath under it and not the Legal Framework Order.

He said the government should summon the session of parliament to pull the country out of crises.

Delay in transfer of power could lead the country towards anarchy, he observed.

About the JUI’s differences with Jamaat-i-Islami over the nomination of Akram Khan Durrani for the office of chief minister, he claimed that all hurdles had been removed in that regard and the name of the leader of  the house in the provincial assembly would be announced within a few days.

He said a meeting of MMA’s NWFP chapter was scheduled to be held at Al Markaz-i-Islami here on Tuesday, in which the name of the next chief minister was likely to be announced.
