President to convene Punjab Assembly

LAHORE, Oct 28: Governor Khalid Maqbool said on Monday the the power to convene the provincial assembly session rested with the president.

“The president, under the constitution, will give a date when the Punjab Assembly will meet,” he told newsmen at the Governor’s House on Monday evening.

Earlier, the governor chaired a meeting of the district nazimeen that took stock of the local government system introduced in 2001.

The meeting was attended among others by finance minister Tariq Hameed, local government minister Hamid Saeed, provincial secretaries of finance, health, communication, education, local government, planning and development chairman, DCOs and EDOs.

On lack of co-ordination between various tiers of the local government, the governor said to overcome this issue a committee comprising union council secretary, tehsil monetary officer (TMO) and DCO has been established.
