EC asked to correct mistakes in forms

Published October 29, 2002

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Election Commission to make suitable amendments to the declaration of nomination forms for election candidates.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Sh Riaz Ahmed, Justice Mian Muhammad Ajmal and Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar passed this order while dismissing petitions of Maulvi Iqbal Haider of Pakistan Himayat Tehrik.

“EC shall take care of the mistakes pointed out by the petitioner,” the court observed.

The petitioner had moved the court when he found that in the declaration of the nomination forms instead of Peace Be Upon Him, it was printed Peace By Upon Him.

The petitioner had also objected to mentioning of Quaid-i-Azam and Pakistan first and declaration regarding the finality of the Prophethood of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) afterwards. He prayed before the court that this portion of the declaration should come first.
