Kashmiris observe black day

LAHORE, Oct 27: Various organizations of Kashmiris observed black day on Sunday on the anniversary of the invasion of Kashmir by Indian troops on Oct 27, 1947.

A big rally was held outside the Lahore Press Club which was attended by the representatives of various Kashmiri organizations and Lahorites to express solidarity with the people of occupied valley in their freedom struggle.

Kashmir Action Committee Pakistan president Dr Muzaffar Shah and leaders representing the Muslim Conference, Jamaat-i-Islami of Azad Kashmir, AJK PPP, Jammu and Kashmir Awami Tehrik, Kashmir Social Welfare Organization spoke at the rally.

Through a resolution, the participants in the rally said that Oct 27, 1947, would always be remembered as a black day when the Indian army occupied a part of Kashmir against the wishes of its people and started a reign of terror and atrocities upon the innocent residents of the valley.

Over 100,000 Kashmiris had been killed, 40,000 youth maimed for life, 5,000 tortured to death in the custody of army, 20,000 Muslim Kashmiri women dishonoured and property worth billions of rupees destroyed, rendering hundreds of thousands homeless and jobless by the Indian forces.

All these incidents and human rights violations have been recorded and documented by various human rights organizations like the Amnesty International, Asia Watch etc.

The resolution paid rich tributes to the Kashmiris for their heroic resistance and sacrifices and assured them full support of the people living in Azad Kashmir, Pakistan and elsewhere in the world in their freedom struggle.

The resolution pointed out that India had been blatantly violating the UN Charter and the Security Council resolutions on Kashmir and disregarding the opinion of the international community by refusing to hold a plebiscite in the state.

It warned that India’s attitude was a great threat to the world peace in general and South Asia in particular. It observed that unless the Kashmir issue was resolved in accordance with the wishes of the people the state, peace in the region could never maintained.

It said that the atrocities committed by the Indian army could not deter the Kashmiris who were determined to continue their struggle till freedom from Indian yoke.
