KARACHI, Oct 27: A pan-kiosk owner, Sikandar, aged 22, was shot dead by two unknown persons in Ghosia Chowk, Orangi Extension, on Sunday.

The police said the young man was kidnapped by three unknown persons from his shop. They took him to a nearby vacant plot and shot him. The victim suffered a bullet wound in his head. He was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the medico-legal officer.

Following the killing, tension prevailed in the area where business activities were suspended.

DIES: An under-trial prisoner, injured in firing at the City Courts on Oct 15, died during treatment at the Civil Hospital Karachi on Sunday.

The hospital sources said UTP Shakil, aged 34, had suffered multiple bullet wounds when two brothers, Mobeen Khan and Mahmood Khan, opened fire at UTP Rais Khan, also injuring Shakil. The two brothers had given themselves up to the police. Both the injured were admitted at the CHK, where Shakil died on Sunday.

KILLED: The body of a murder victim was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre from Gadani, Balochistan, on Sunday.

The hospital sources said that Bakht Rawan, a labourer aged 37, was axed to death in his sleep by unknown persons in Gadani. The police shifted his body to the JPMC for postmortem examination.

The victim hailed from Swat in the NWFP. His body was sent to his native town following legal formalities at the hospital, the sources said.

ACCIDENTS: A driver died and six passengers were injured when a vehicle collided with an electric pole in the Site area on Sunday.

The police said that a Suzuki pickup carrying eight persons collided with an electric pole near Walika Chowrangi. The driver of the vehicle, Shahbaz Ahmad aged 20, died on the spot, and six passengers travelling in the pickup were injured and admitted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

A police official was seriously injured in a road traffic accident on Super Highway early on Sunday morning.

The police said that constable Waris, aged 35, was crossing the Super Highway when an unknown vehicle knocked him down.

He was admitted to the JPMC where the sources described his condition as serious.

CRITICAL: Three picnickers were admitted to the Civil Hospital after they were rescued by the lifeguards at the Hawkesbay beach on Sunday.

The police said that Saeed Ahmed aged 33, Fahad aged 25 and Muzaffar Ali aged 29, had gone to the Hawkesbay beach where they were swept away by strong currents. They were rescued by the lifeguards present at the beach. The three were admitted to the Civil Hospital where the sources termed their condition serious.

INJURED: About a dozen persons were injured, some of them with bullet wounds, when two groups clashed in Orangi Extension on Sunday over children’s quarrel in a cricket match. Their elders indulged in a free for all. Some of them resorted to firing which resulted in injuries to Bashir Mahsi, Arif, Nazir and Samual.

Others injured were identified as Amnat Mahsi, Younis Mahsi, Irshad, Yasmeen, Shakil and Ashraf.
