KARACHI: Beautiful buildings selected

Published October 28, 2002

KARACHI, Oct 27: The KBCA committee set up for selecting four beautiful buildings on the MA Jinnah Road — two each constructed on above 600 and on less than 600 square yards — has selected the buildings with a remarks that even these buildings met only 10 per cent criteria set for choosing the best buildings.

The meeting held on Saturday at the KBCA conference room, however, withheld the names of the buildings till the best buildings on Sharae Faisal are declared by another committee set up for the purpose.

Deploring that the construction of buildings in the city was being carried out without keeping their aesthetic beauty in mind, the committee’s chairman said: “it seems that since the buildings bylaws have been wilfully ignored in construction of buildings, the whole city is slowly being turned into a major slump.”

Describing the task of selecting the beautiful buildings as ‘difficult’, the committee members noted with concern that in the absence of beautiful structures, they had no choice but to declare the four buildings on the M. A. Jinnah Road as the best.

The meeting was chaired by chairman of the committee, Hussain Haroon. Its members include Architect Misbah Najmi, Prof Dr Khanzada, Planner Arif Hasan, Karachi Cantonment Board’s executive officer and others.
