KARACHI, Oct 25: A police official suffered injuries on Friday when a bomb exploded in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

A spokesman for the police said that on a tipoff the police, under the supervision of DSPs Liaquatabad Irfan Bahadur and Aslam Khan, raided a vacant plot in Rehmatia Colony in 13-D/3, Gulshan-i-Iqbal. On digging the soil of the plot, they found 13 bombs. During the excavation, a bomb exploded and caused injuries to SHO Super Market Mohammad Sarwar Khan. He was taken to Aga Khan Hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger. He suffered injuries to his face, head, chest and the lower parts of his body.

The police seized 12 bombs which were defused by the the bomb disposal squad at the Liaquatabad police station. Five of the bombs had timers attached. They weighed between half a kilogram to 250 grams.

However, in a press release issued by the office of the Nazim Union Council No. 8, Jamali Colony of Gulshan-i-Iqbal, it was claimed that though the recovery of the bombs was shown to have taken place in their locality, the bombs were discovered somewhere else.

It said the area people did not hear the sound of any blast and when the UC Nazim visited the site he did not find any signs of the blast. No one in the area witnessed the recovery.

The press release further stated that telephone calls were made to the Super Market and the Gulshan-i-Iqbal police stations, but the two police stations kept shifting the responsibility onto each other for the registration of the case about the recovery.
