ISLAMABAD, June 8: A 22-year-old girl was found dead in her house under unexplained circumstances on Wednesday night, police said.

The victim was identified as Rubab Shamshad, a resident of a slum in G-7/3. The police said her body was lying on a bed when her neighbours rushed to her house after hearing the screams of her five-year-old brother.

Later, she was shifted to Polyclinic where doctors pronounced her dead.

During examination of the body, a mark of rope was found on the right side of the victim’s neck. Later, the body was shifted to Pims for autopsy.

During interrogation, the neighbours - two women - who brought the victim to the hospital told the police that they spotted the victim lying on the bed. During examination, the doctors observed that she might have died at her home.

The neighbours claimed that she committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope. However, her body was found lying on the bed instead of hanging from the ceiling, which raised suspicion.

The police suspected that there was a possibility that someone had strangled and killed her with the rope as a mark was found on her neck.

The police said at the time of the incident the victim along with her brother was all alone in the house.

Her father, a driver by profession, and mother, who is a working woman, was out of the house, they added.

The victim’s parents told the police that they had no enmity with anyone.
