MULTAN, Oct 24: The teaching staff of all government schools, colleges and technical education institutions observed strikes in the Punjab on Thursday against the privatization of the education.
In Multan, the strike was observed under the banner of the Joint Action Committee comprising associations of teachers of various tiers.
Besides boycotting classes, protest meetings were organized separately at each school, college and technical education institutes here.
The protesters criticized the decision of the Punjab government to establish Board of Governors (BoGs) for health and educational institutions. The government, they alleged, was privatizing both the sectors in the name of autonomy.
The main protest rally was staged at the Government College, Bosan Road, where Prof A.A. Iftikhar, Chaudhry Nazeer, Tanveer Shah, Dr Farkhand Shakeel, Razzaq Shahid, Maqbool Gillani and Mujahid Idrees spoke the gathering.
They vowed to keep continue their struggle for the just rights of teachers, students and under-privileged classes of society.
OKARA: Teachers of the local Degree College went on a strike against the formation of Board of Governors.
Members of the local chapter of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association in a press release vowed to continue the strike till the withdrawal of the notification.
GUJRANWALA: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) and other organizations of teachers took out protest rallies against the denationalization of educational institutions.
The PPLA held a protest meeting at the local Government Islamia College and passed a resolution against the denationalization of educational institutions.
Later, they took out the protest procession and reached the district courts after parading through various city roads. Carrying placards and banners, they also shouted slogans against the government.
Speaking on the occasion, PPLA president Prof Mahboob Ahmad and others urged the government to withdraw the decision in the larger interests of students, teachers and the general public.
