KABUL, Afghanistan: Two Nato service members were killed in southern Afghanistan where fighting has picked up since the Taliban launched a spring offensive against Afghan and international troops last month.

The US-led coalition said both service members were killed in separate insurgent attacks Friday in the south. The coalition did not disclose further details of the deaths or the troops' nationalities. The statements on the latest fatalities were released late Friday and Saturday.

More than 200 Nato troops have died so far this year in Afghanistan.

In a separate development, the governor's office in southwest Helmand province said that police forces killed three insurgents who attacked a checkpoint Friday in the Marjah district. It said another heavily-armed insurgent was killed the same day when he failed to stop at another checkpoint.
