HYDERABAD, Oct 24: The father of one of the convicts in the Daniel Pearl murder case on Thursday urged the jail authorities to shift his son to Karachi for proper medical treatment of his son.
According to Syed Abdul Rauf, the father of the convict, the condition of Syed Salman Saqib was critical.
Rauf accused the Hyderabad jail authorities of not providing proper medical care to his son, saying he was passing blood in his urine.
Rauf said that he, along with his younger son, Hussain Ahmed, had met Saqib inside the central jail and the condition of his incarcerated son was so critical that he had to be lifted bodily to enable him to meet with them at the main entrance of the jail.
He showed a bottle, containing blood-coloured urine, to the newsmen which he said would be taken to Karachi for analysis.
DIG PRISONS SINDH: The DIG Prisons, Nawaz Hussain, told Dawn over phone that the condition of Salman Saqib does not warrant his shifting to any hospital outside central jail.
He added that the convict had been examined by a professor from the Liaquat Medical University Hospital.
The DIG Prisons added that the medical report submitted by the medical expert would be the basis of his opinions and recommendations to the higher authorities.
He said that Saqib had an old medical history and he had not developed anything after his arrival in the Hyderabad jail.—Correspondent
