St. Michael’s suffer shock defeat

KARACHI, Oct 23: Clifton Grammar School stunned St. Michael’s Convent in the Rev. Father Robert D’Silva Golden Jubilee Invitation Inter-school cricket tournament by 15 runs at the National Bank Of Pakistan ground Wednesday.

Batting first Clifton Grammar reeling at 56 for six wickets, managed to reach 120 in 23 overs through Saad Kamal (26).

Ghyas Ather who bagged seven wickets for 17 runs a day earlier against Foundation Public School, picked up two wickets for 16 runs.

St. Michael’s needing 121 for win were bundled out for 105, although opener Aamar Khalid had a fighting knock of 42.

Habib Mehmood three for 19 and Saad Kamal two for 26, bowled well for the winners. In another match played at the P.A.D. ground, The Lyceum School beat D.H.A. “O” and “A” Level by 41 runs to advance to the semifinals.

Put into bat after losing the toss, The Lyceum School reached 156 for five wickets in their 25 allotted overs through a stylish knock of 63 by Bilal Bhatti and Shamoon Farooqi’s unbeaten 22.

DHA “O” and “A” Level were dismissed for 115 in 22.2 overs, with Shaharyar top scoring with 36. Kashif Lakhani picked up three wickets for 14. The Lyceum will now meet Karachi Grammar School in the first semifinal.

On Thursday, The City School Darakshan meet Bay View High at 9.30am and Foundation Public School will take on City School P.A.F. Chapter at 1.30pm. Both matches will be played at the P.A.D. ground.
