ATTOCK, Oct 23: Asif Ali Zardari, spouse of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, has claimed that the People’s Party Parliamentarian will form a national government at Islamabad as is the requirement of the present situation.

Speaking to newsmen at the Attock accountability court on Wednesday, he  said the PPP, which had emerged major political party and polled more votes than any other party, would share power with all the political parties.

“The survival of the new parliament lies in the formation of a consensus national government to steer the country out of present chaos,” he observed.

The PPP could not bag maximum seats, because the ball was in the referee’s hand and not with the bowler, but it polled more votes in the elections, he said.

Mr Zardari was escorted by the Punjab police from Rawalpindi to the Attock Fort to appear before the accountability court in a pending case of assets.

He said the rulers were reluctant to convene National Assembly session, because they wanted to change some more results.

It was the sole business of the newly elected parliament to decide what was good for the country and it was not the business of Khalid Ranjha or anyone else, he said.

Mr Zardari said if PPP was barred from forming the government, it would sit on the opposition benches. The next government would not stay more than six months and the rulers would have to go for another election, he said.

He said those who had managed a big victory for the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal must transfer power to them.

He urged the PPP workers who had contested election as independent candidates to return to their party.

He said despite all hurdles, the PPP succeeded in keeping its vote bank intact in all the provinces and the people reposed their confidence in the party.

Mr Zardari also condoled the death of Behram Niazi, son of PPP leader Dr Sher Afgan Niazi.
