PARACHINAR, May 27: Despite ceasefire between rival groups, militants continued their activities in Kurram Agency and killed a minor girl and injured a woman in a mortar attack on Shalozan village on Friday.

Residents said that miscreants launched the attack from Tangi area near Afghan border and fired mortars and rockets at residential areas in the village. A mortar shell hit a house in which two-year-old girl was killed and a woman injured.

Shalozan had been under attack for the last three weeks. Residents said that militants had their hideouts in Tangi area from where they were launching the attacks. So far, three people have been killed and 20 others wounded in the rocket attacks.

Meanwhile, armed groups vacated their positions in Balishkhel and Sadda area of lower Kurram in the wake of the ceasefire. Paramilitary forces and personnel of Kurram Levies have taken control of the hilltops and other sensitive areas.

However, the political administration is yet to take measures for stopping attacks on Shalozan and its surrounding areas. Elders said that continuous attacks could jeopardise the ceasefire in lower Kurram if government failed to take serious action against the troublemakers.
