HYDERABAD, Oct 22: The chairman, Sindh Taraqqi Passand Party (STPP), Dr Qadir Magsi, has said that the principled and realistic policy of the party with regards to the general election had raised the image of the party in the eyes of the people.

He was addressing the central body of the party which met at the Taraqqi Passand House on Monday.

He claimed that the general elections and the post-election scenario had proved the apprehensions of the party hundred per cent correct.

He said that the rulers were not prepared to hand over power to the elected members of the parliament and were delaying the transfer of power intentionally so that their conditions should be accepted by the major power brokers.

He said that this would further render the parliament and the elected government totally ineffective.

He said that under these circumstances the elected government would not be able to resolve the basic problems of the people as well as the controversial issues between the federation and the federating units.

Mr Magsi said that the judicious distribution of funds, provincial autonomy, water issue, construction of the Kalabagh Dam and the greater Thal canal, rampant unemployment, price hike, and expulsion of illegal immigrants were the major problems which would have to be resolved by the elected representatives of the people.

The meeting observed that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was back to its old blackmailing tactics with a view to usurping the chief ministership of the province and some parties were already trying to bargain with the MQM to remain in business.

The meeting made it clear that the people of Sindh had not given any mandate to any party to bargain over the matter of sovereignty of the Sindhi people.

It pointed out that the people of interior Sindh had contemptuously rejected the MQM candidates and exposed the designs of the party.

It warned that if any party handed over the chief ministership of Sindh to the MQM, the people of Sindh and the STPP would resist such a move.

It decided to hold the meeting of the national congress of the party at Hyderabad from Nov 2 to 3.

TRAINING PROGRAMME: At a training programme for workers held at the United Refrigeration Industry the other day, the speakers said that the conscientious industrial workers could play a vital role in the economic development of the country by increasing the industrial production.

The programme was organized by the regional centre, Directorate of Workers Education, Ministry of Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis.

They said that Pakistan was at No7 from the population point of view and if the present birth rate was allowed to continue then it would be at No3 in the world after China and India by the year 2050.

They said that government efforts to provide basic health, education, and other facilities had been totally nullified due to the alarming birth rate.

They said that it was the duty of the parents to control the birth rate for the welfare of their families and the people of the country at large.

They stressed the need for creating awareness among the people about the dangers of the ever-increasing population.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Zamir Ansari of the Social Action Programme, Ayub Ali of the Directorate of Workers Education, the chairman, Hope for Asia, Ali Mohammad, and Ashfaq Ahmed of the Marvi Society.
