ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Ijaz Butt announced on Wednesday that Shahid Afridi’s place as the captain of the ODI team was not assured.

Butt's statement is likely to put into disarray what looks like a settled limited overs unit.

“No assurance has been rendered to Shahid Afridi as far as retaining him as skipper for the upcoming ODI tour of Ireland,” Butt told a private TV channel.

Butt said that he clearly told Afridi in their last meeting that owing to the all-rounder’s disciplinary issues, the PCB was mulling the option of bringing in someone else.

He added that consultation was underway over selection of the team for the Ireland ODIs and a finalised team will be announced in a day or two.
