KARACHI, Oct 21: The monopoly of a particular group of transporters operating on various routes of Gulistan-i-Jauhar has made life miserable for people.

According to a survey, there is only one coach operating between Gulistan-i-Jauhar and other parts of the city with a monopoly over the route. At 11 pm coach owners cease their operations, causing immense hardships to people reaching back their homes from M.A Jinnah Road and the adjoining areas. No direct minibus or coach is being plied between Gulistan-i-Jauhar and University Road towards Karachi University. Many students of NED and Karachi University have to change buses to reach their institutions located a few miles away from their homes. Metro buses are the only public transport between the varsities and Gulistan-i-Jauhar, but most students do not find it affordable.

“It is not fair that students from other areas pay half of the normal fares to reach their educational institutions, but the residents of the Jauhar area have to pay Rs20 to 30 to reach the varsities and colleges and then back home,” a student Rakhshanda argues.—PPI
