MIRAMSHAH, May 12: Eight people were killed when a US drone targeted a suspected pick-up in Dattakhel tehsil of North Waziristan on Thursday.

Local people said the unmanned aircraft fired two missiles at the double-cabin vehicle, killing all the people travelling in it. The vehicle was heading towards Mazdek area near the Afghan border.

This was the second drone attack in the area this month.

Separately, two soldiers of the Afghan army and three tribesmen were killed in a gunfight in Lwara Mandai on Thursday.

The clash took place when Afghan troops stopped tribesmen coming from Paktia to North Waziristan to search their vehicle.
