KARACHI, May 10: Armed robbers on Tuesday shot dead two men in as many city areas when they put up resistance against them, police said.

In the first incident, an aged man was shot dead by armed bandits in a North Nazimabad locality when he resisted a robbery bid on Tuesday, the police said.

They said that the victim, Zafar Salam, was driving to his brother's home when he was intercepted by three men on a motorbike near D'Silva Cut in North Nazimabad's block P.

“They snatched Rs3,000 from the victim and probably they also told him to leave the car,” said an official at the Shahrah-i-Noor Jehan police station.

“Such a move might have been resisted by the victim and one of the bandits fired at him. They sped away on their motorbike. The victim sustained a bullet wound in the chest and was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he died during treatment.”

The police said that the victim, who was in his late-sixties, was a resident of North Nazimabad.

A case (FIR 222/2011) was registered under Sections 395 (punishment for dacoity), 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown persons on a complaint of the victim's younger brother.

In a similar incident, another man met the same fate while challenging armed robbers in the Malir area.

Officials said two robbers held 35-year-old Adil Jumman at gunpoint to snatch his valuables. However, they shot him twice and fled when he offered resistance near Ibrahim Shah Dargah in Memon Goth.

“The victim hailed from the interior of Sindh and came here to see some relative in Memon Goth,” said Inspector Arbab Ali Magsi, the SHO of the Memon Goth police station. “He was going home after staying a few minutes at the shrine when two men on a motorbike intercepted him and snatched valuables. An eyewitness to the incident said he saw one of the riders firing at the victim when he tried to challenge them.”

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities.

The police said they were waiting for the family to arrive from the interior of Sindh to lodge an FIR.
