LONDON, May 7: Queens Park Rangers’ promotion to the Premier League was confirmed on Saturday as the Football Association announced the club would not be deducted points over a player ownership case. The English Championship (second division) winners were facing seven charges from a regulatory commission relating to the transfer and contract renewal of Argentine midfielder Alejandro Faurlin.

“Although two of the charges have been found to be proved there will be no points deduction made from Queens Park Rangers FC in this season or the next,” The FA said in a statement on their website.

Going into Saturday’s final round of fixtures QPR are top of the standings with 88 points and are now assured of finishing as champions and playing in the Premier League for the first time since 1996.

Norwich City, second on 83, have also secured automatic promotion while Cardiff City, Swansea City and Reading are in the playoffs with Nottingham Forest likely to join them.—Reuters
