RAWALPINDI, Oct 19: The Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) is set to start preparations for the by-elections of two seats in the district.

A meeting of local MMA leaders was held here on Saturday at the Jamaat-i-Islami headquarters to discuss various aspects of the forthcoming by-elections in the district. The participants also reviewed the general elections and electioneering campaign run by the MMA candidates in their respective constituencies.

The MMA Rawalpindi vice-president, Mohammad Abbas Butt, presided over the meeting. Others present on the occasion included secretary-general Maulana Abdul Majeed Hazarvi, secretary information Malik Mohammad Azam, Syed Shahid Zaidi, Tariq Munir Butt, Maulana Abdul Jalil Naqshbandi, Maulana Saeed Ahmad Naqshbandi, Mohammad Hanif, Mohammad Zubair Kiani and MPA- elect Fayazul Hassan Chohan.

The two seats are to be vacated by the MNAs-elect on double seats. Two independent candidates, Sheikh Rashid and Sarwar Khan, won two seats each, NA-55, 56 and NA-53, PP-8, respectively.

A meeting is also scheduled to be held on Sunday at Al-Ikram Building. Local MMA leaders, including Rawalpindi district president Allama Abdul Jalil Naqvi, Maulana Abdul Majeed Hazarvi, Maulana Abdul Majeed Naqshbandi, Dr Mohammad Kamal, Dr Afzal Izaz will attend the meeting.

The local leaders will take stock of various aspects of the by-elections. They will discuss prospective candidates to be fielded for the two seats.
