ISLAMABAD: A team of DawnNews was attacked by staffers of the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) in Islamabad on Wednesday and its reporter Sammar Abbas and cameraman Asif Mirza were released after being held hostage by them, DawnNews reported.

The camera of the news team was snatched and damaged by ZTBL workers and the hostage DawnNews reporter had also been injured.

The news team was attacked while covering the Employees Old Age Benefit Institution (EOBI) raid on the ZTBL.

The bank was raided after failing to pay benefits to 5,500 workers amounting to Rs 85 million.

Information Minister says FIA lodged against the assault on journalists.

Journalists across the country protest against the incident. Political and religious parties condemn it. The prime minister has taken notice and has ordered an investigation.
