HYDERABAD, Oct 18: A majority of the house officers of the Liaquat University Hospital on Thursday staged a protest demonstration outside the press club against the non-payment of salaries to 257 house job doctors.

Talking to newsmen, the leaders of the doctors’ forum, Dr Sher Mohammad, Dr Sheeraz, Dr Inayat, and others complained that their salaries had been withheld without any rhyme or reason.

They said that they had been asked by the medical superintendent “to go home”.

They said that if they were not paid their salaries they would enlarge the scope of their protest.

MENGHWAR WELFARE ASSOCIATION: Several activists of the Menghwar Welfare Association, Sindh University Unit, Jamshoro, staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Friday against the excesses of the Arbabs of Tharparkar against the minorities.

Addressing the rally, Ashok Kumar, Bhalaj, and other student leaders called upon the government to take notice of the inhuman atrocities “unleashed by the Arbabs against the minorities of Tharparkar”.

They accused the Arbabs of rigging the elections.

They said that at least 30 polling stations were physically taken over by the Arbabs and “the opposition workers were kidnapped and tortured”.

The student leaders said that the local police had become the servants of the Arbabs and hundreds of poor people had been implicated in false cases.

They appealed to the chief election commissioner to hold re-election in the district after removing the district administration.

HDA: The managing director, Water and Sanitation Agency, HDA, has notified for the information of the public that due to power breakdowns at the water supply installations on Friday severe water shortages had occurred in certain areas of Latifabad and Qasimabad.

These areas included Amani Shah Colony, Dastagir Colony, Iqbal Colony, and adjoining Kaccha Abadis, Latifabad No11 and 12 as well as Bhittai Nagar, Bhittai town, Marvi Garden, Mqarvi town and adjoining areas.

He said the water supply position would take at least two to three days to normalize in the affected areas provided there was no further power breakdown.

HESCO: The Maintenance and Testing (M&T) teams of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) checked 2,354 power meters and detected power thefts in 650 domestic connections, 422 commercial, 20 industrial, and 18 agricultural connections during the month of September.

A spokesman of Hesco in a statement issued on Thursday said that it was also detected that 64 domestic metres, 38 commercial, 21 industrial, and 10 agricultural metres were running slow.
