FAISALABAD, Nov 13: The Fruit and Vegetable Vendors Association, Faisalabad, has dem-anded the Punjab government to set up mini-fruit and vegetable markets in some parts of the city.
In a statement here on Tuesday, office-bearers of the association said with the establishment of mini-green markets, fresh fruits and vegetables would be available at reasonable rates.
They alleged that commission agents of the fruit and vegetable market of Jhang Road had been fleecing vendors and people.
They urged the district Nazim to take steps for establishing mini markets in residential areas for the convenience of the people. They also demanded the authorities concerned to take action against commission agents involved in hoarding eatables especially dates, apples and bananas to mint money during Ramazan.
WASA: Wasa managing director Ghiasuddin has asked defaulters to pay their dues otherwise they will have to face legal action.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, the Wasa chief said thousands of consumers had not been paying water supply and sewerage charges due to which the agency had been facing financial problems.
SECURITY STEPS: The Punjab government has directed heads of law-enforcement agencies to be alert and arrest hardened criminals and the persons involved in anti-social activities to avoid any untoward incident during Ramazan.
According to police sources, a crackdown will be launched against proclaimed offenders and court absconders. They said all the SHOs of the district had been directed to arrest wanted persons of their respective areas.
Special police teams in plainclothes will be deployed at Imambargahs, mosques, government offices, hospitals, banks, commercial markets, railway stations, general bus stand, wagon stands and other sensitive points.
It has also been decided that no religious gathering without permission will be allowed at any cost. The ban on loudspeaker will also be got implemented in its true letter and spirit.
